We will
beat (not match) any competitor's deal (purchase total, not just price) upon purchase and continued to do so for 15 days after purchase, Price is very important. But shipping is equally important.
Price comparison without shipping comparison (safety, damage ratio, timeliness, speed and etc.) is a recipe for troubles. That is why we apply some common-sense conditions here and exclude these sellers in order of the severity of damage to the online community.
1.Sellers with
good but fake reviews and ratings, AKA "astroturfing". Based on a simple fact that the
number of reviews must be in line with the number of customers, and most of the multi-billion-dollar mega-stores have less than 1200 reviews, we particularly exclude:
A. Any web sites with more than 600 reviews unless they are national chain stores. B. Any web sites with reviews of a dubious nature such as a highly repetitive writing style,
a lack of specifics, "one liners" and so on. Since many of these sites are from New York or New Jersey, where online frauds concentrate, the local Better Business Bureaus have kept the records. But the trick is to find the
real names of these sites.
Perhaps, one of the most effective jobs done in increasing the public awareness of these phantoms is this web site named Don Wiss. The web page can be found easily by searching for the key words "Don Wiss Brooklyn Stores" and "Don Wiss otherstores"(no space between "other" and "stores") on a major search engine. The site contains many pictures and cross references to multiple names often used by one company to evade public attentions. You must use the find function of your browser as only the real names are organized in alphabetical order, but not the web site names or alias (click on the "Edit", then select "Find on this page" on your browser, or hold down the CTRL key and then the F key on your keyboard, search for the first two words of the site name). You will be impressed by what you see and glad you did it! Then (Yes, you need to get the REAL names from the above site first), a quick check with the BBB of New York or New Jersey by searching for the key words "BBB New York" or "BBB New Jersey" on a major search engine should help expose these clowns.2. The sites that sell a warranty plan called
CPS, short for Consumer Priority Service.
Update on 1/21/10: There is another similar plan called
BPG , short for Buyers Protection Group.
A well established extended warranty plan such as the one offered by GE, Avon, Assurant, Phillips, Warrantech or VAC, is underwritten by a AAA or AA rated insurance company. Without such an underwriting, a warranty plan is nothing but a piece of paper trash. Furthermore, When a so-called affiliated servicer is contacted at any random zip code, it has no idea why its name is listed in the first place!
3. Sellers who do not have all items in stock on the entire order or do not disclose truthfully the product availability and all applicable charges, especially advertise
free shipping hiding the essential delivery fees such as
residential, lift gate, freight insurance, fuel surcharges until after the order placement. We dissect the free shipping non-sense
here. We especially exclude these sellers from NY and NJ, who sell
previously used and damaged products. This is well documented by the BBB.
Consumer Alert: Many of the sites that ranked at the lowest 20-30 percentile of price (for example, the 5 lowest price sellers out of 20) employ the availability trick. When a consumer does not order the "add-ons", the order will be ignored in the name of "product no longer available" or "out of stock" until the consumer can no longer wait. This is essentially a modified form of bait and switch because the seller would lose money if it honors the deal that is below the cost.4. Sellers who charge a consumer's credit card
before the merchandise is shipped. When asked for a tracking No, they lie to consumers with all kinds of goofy excuses such as product lost in shipping, shipment delayed and etc. Visa and MasterCard will unconditionally put money back in a consumer's card when a dispute is initiated.
